Michael Kaplan
Dr. Michael Kaplan, Optometrist O.D Dip. Optom. F.O.A (S.A) Dr. Michael Kaplan graduated in South Africa in 1981. He attained his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois School of Optometry in 1989. Dr. Kaplan worked at the Johannesburg General Hospital and the St. John's Eye Clinic in Baragwaneth Hospital, Soweto. He has had private practices in South Africa, England and most recently in Toronto. He has served as a speaker for various companies such as CIBA Vision, Vistakon, Bausch and Lomb, Alcon and Nikon, on the topics of contact lens products, spectacle lenses and materials. Dr. Kaplan served as a Clinical Researcher from 1999 – present. He has participated in studies that compared performances of two daily-wear contact lenses and the performances of two extended-wear contact lenses. He has also participated in a studies that looked at the performance of two contact lens disinfecting solutions. He has conducted studies to investigate the performance of a Toric Hydrogel-Silicone lens, the performance of contact lenses with dry eye patients and multifocal fitting procedures. He is married with 2 children, a son aged 25 and a daughter aged 21. In his spare time, Dr. Kaplan enjoys cycling, photography and is a fourth degree Renshi karate instructor.
Lisa Kim
Dr. Lisa Kim was drawn to optometry early on in her academic career during her undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto, and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science and her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the University of Waterloo in 1999. During her studies, Dr. Kim completed an ocular health externship at a multi-disciplinary practice with the Diagnostic Medical Group in Largo, Florida along with a Canadian Primary Care externship at the Scarborough Low Vision Clinic. She received her certification for the Treatment and Management of Ocular disease from the International Association of Board of Examiners in Optometry in December 1998 After graduation, for the next 5 years she gained invaluable experience in pre-and post-operative care of refractive laser patients by working alongside leading and renowned surgeons at TLC. At the same time, she enjoyed working in a Primary care practice (formerly known as The Eyecare Clinic), dedicating her time to family and pediatric eye care. A practice where she continues to work for over 18 years. Dr. Kim enjoys all aspects of optometry, but has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye disease and myopia control. She is passionate and devoted to providing the best care possible by taking the time to really get to know her patients and utilizing the latest information and technology to best suit individual and unique vision and eye care needs. Born and raised in Toronto, outside of work, Dr. Kim loves spending time with her husband and 3 daughters.
